During the operation of the concrete batching plant, the mixer mixes all kinds of raw materials for the production of concrete products, and then processes them to form different types of concrete products. It can be said that the mixer plays an important role in the whole concrete batching plant. The concrete batching plant mixer types will be introduced below.
Two Shaft Mixer
Planetary Mixer
The main machine used in the concrete batching plant is generally two shaft and vertical shaft (planetary mixer). In some cases, single shaft and drum mixers are used. Since the main mixers of the most Luton concrete batching plants mainly adopt the two shaft mixers, the following is only an example of the specific parameters of the two shaft mixer.

Features of Concrete Batching Plant Mixer Types
Two Shaft Mixer:
This mixer is one of the forced mixers. Its main feature is its compact structure, which is composed of transmission system, mixing tank, mixer, shaft end seal, etc. It is mainly suitable for mixing low fluidity dry and hard concrete, semi dry and hard concrete, light aggregate concrete and various mortars.
The application scope of two shaft concrete mixer is relatively narrow, but it is common in construction projects. The internal mechanism of the mixer is closely combined, and the internal part of the mixing tank is provided with a wear-resistant lining plate to prevent abrasion; The lower part of the mixing drum is provided with a discharge port, which is convenient for discharging.
Two horizontal main mixing shafts are installed inside the mixing tank. The mixing arm is set on each mixing shaft, and then the mixing blade is installed on the mixing arm. The arrangement between them is usually a discontinuous spiral arrangement, usually with a spiral angle of 45 ° and 60 °. This structure is convenient for mixing large aggregates, and also allows the mixture to have a better flow space in the mixing drum, making it easier to fully mix the mixture.
Single Shaft Mixer:
This mixer is also one of the forced mixers. Like the double horizontal shaft concrete mixer, the single shaft concrete mixer is also commonly used to mix dry hard concrete, semi dry hard concrete, light aggregate concrete and various mortars, mainly used in construction projects.
It has a large discharge volume range, which can generally reach 350~3000L. The structural feature of this mixer is that two rotating ribbon blades are symmetrically arranged on both sides of the mixing arm. The difference is that the rotation mode of the two spiral blades is just opposite. During the mixing process, the mixture is pushed from both ends to the middle of the mixing drum by the pushing of the two blades. During the mixing process, the rotating direction of the spiral blade is from left to right, which drives the mixture to move and forces the mixture to squeeze, shear and rub. The mixing effect is very obvious.
Vertical (Planetary)Mixer:
This type of mixer is mainly used for the mixing of roller compacted concrete, the production of blocks and prefabricated parts, as well as the production of steel fiber concrete, colored concrete and dry mortar. Its advantages lie in superior mixing effect for fine aggregate and high mixing strength.
Its structure mainly has two forms, one is fixed axis type; The other is fixed disc type. The mixing blades of this machine are fixed on the moving disk and planet carrier, the blades fixed on the moving disk realize the mixing function, and the blades fixed on the planet carrier realize the function of disordered materials.
Difference between Single and Two shafts of Concrete Batching Plant
Difference of Mixing Shaft Transmission System
The transmission system of the single shaft mixer is a chain transmission structure while the transmission system of double shaft mixing host is V-belt and sliding gear structure.
Compared with the single shaft mixer, the noise generated by the two shaft mixer in the transmission process is relatively low, and its design itself has the overload protection function, which is relatively safe and convenient. Generally, large concrete mixing plants are used more.
Difference of Mixing Effect
In the production of common types of concrete, the mixing effect of single shaft mixer is comparable to that of the twin shaft mixer.
However, if some concrete products with high requirements, such as roller compacted concrete, are produced, the mixing effect is relatively poor.
The mixing effect of the double shaft mixer is better than that of the single shaft mixer, and its wear degree is very low.
Discharging Performance Difference
The size of the discharge port of the single shaft mixer is relatively rigid, which is difficult to adjust in actual production, and its discharge door is very easy to get stuck, so the discharge performance is very general.
However, the twin shaft mixer can effectively solve this problem, and its discharge performance is relatively excellent. This is another very important reason why most commercial concrete mixing plants now use double shaft mixers.
