Brief Introduction of A Hot Mix Asphalt Plant
A hot mix asphalt plant is designed to mix aggregates of different particle size and fillers (mineral powders) according to a certain proportion to produce the asphalt mixture with the effect of binder (asphalt or residual oil) at a specified temperature.

How does an Asphalt Plant Work
After the central control room sends the boot command, the cold materials in the cold bin are first transported to the drum dryer through the belt conveyor. Then the aggregates dried are transported to the vibrating screen for screening via the hot material elevator, and the screened aggregates fall into each hot aggregate bin.
Next The powders and screened aggregates drop into the corresponding weighing hopper from the outlet of the respective storage bins, are measured by the electronic scale, and are dropped into the mixing tank. Last the weighed hot asphalt is also sprayed into the mixing tank.
After various mixtures are fully mixed, the finished asphalt mixture is produced and it’s unloaded into the hopper car. It is unloaded into the asphalt mixture storage bin through the track, and finally the finished materials are placed on the transport vehicle through the unloading gate.
How Hot Mix Asphalt is Manufactured
The cold sand and stone materials of different specification are sent to the drying drum for drying and heating by the cold aggregate belt conveyor after the initial batching by the cold aggregate storage and batching device, and then sent to the vibrating screen by the hot aggregate elevator for secondary screening.
Diverse screened sand and stone materials are respectively stored in the compartment of the hot storage bin, and then enter the hot aggregate weighing hopper for weighing and measurement according to the specified proportion.
The hot mix asphalt stored in the insulation tank is pumped to the asphalt weighing barrel for weighing and metering by the asphalt delivery pump through the insulated asphalt pipeline; the weighed hot asphalt, together with the powder measured according to a certain proportion, is put into the mixer and forced to mix according to the sequence set by the program.

>Cold aggregate supply system
The cold material supply system undertakes the tasks of feeding and primary distribution. It is generally required to be equipped with 4 ~ 6 bins, one of which is a sand bin. The number of bins can also be increased or decreased according to the needs of users.
The opening width and height of the cold aggregate bin must be convenient for the loader to load. And the lower part of the bin is usually equipped with a belt feeder.
An adjustable material door is installed at the outlet of the cold aggregate bin, and the feeding amount can be adjusted through the change of the opening degree of the material door and the rotating speed of the belt conveyor. The feeding amount must be even and stable during the operation progress.
The correctness of aggregate supply and primary bitching directly affects the quality of the asphalt mixture.
>Drying Drum
When designing the drying drum, it is required to have sufficient volume and a certain length diameter ratio. The materials in the drum are lifted, dropped and moved forward under the action of drum blades, and heated under the effect of flame and combustion hot air flow.
The combustion hot air flows through the aggregate curtain in the drum for heat exchange, and the water in the aggregate volatilizes continuously and increases the temperature of the aggregate.
