Concrete Line Pump
The concrete line pump, is usually mounted on a truck or a trailer. It is named so owing to the conveying hoses or pipelines equipped on the concrete line pump. Liquid concrete can be easily pumped to any location on the construction site. Since the hoses are flexible like a snake line, the concrete line pump can be parked at a convenient location at the construction site. The hoses can then be extended to go around obstacles and through narrow alleys to the desired location, which is usually inaccessible to trucks and trailers.
Concrete line pumps include concrete trailer pump (also called as stationary concrete pump), truck mounted concrete pump, concrete mixer pump, trucked mounted concrete mixer pump.

How Does A Concrete Pump Work?
The following process is the process of a concrete trailer pump, which the pumping system adopts a double cylinder and double loop hydraulic system.
First, the concrete is discharged into the hopper with the impetus from the high-pressure oil. The hydraulic motor then drives the S valve to swing left and right, which then alternately connects the S valve with the output ports of the two concrete cylinders.
The two concrete cylinders are separately connected to the two cylinders of the main oil pump through the water tank. The piston rods in the two main cylinders are alternately pushed and pulled by the main oil pump through high-pressure oil.
This drives the piston heads connected with the rods to constantly inhale and extrude concrete alternately in the two concrete cylinders. This results in the continuous pumping of concrete.
In this type of pumping, the independent main pump hydraulic oil circuit system and S valve hydraulic oil circuit system make the entire pumping system more concise, highly reliable, and easier to troubleshoot.
Components Of A Concrete Pump
Concrete pumps are very popular for producing and conveying liquid concrete in the construction industry. It is widely praised for its superior performance, flexibility in transportation and setup, high efficiency, simple operation, and easy maintenance. Taking the LUTON concrete pump as an example, let us look at the main components of a concrete pump.
Power system
1. Power Host – Diesel engine or Electric motor
The power host is the core power source of the whole equipment and can be powered by a diesel engine or an electric motor. As seen above, concrete pumps are also known as diesel concrete pumps or electric concrete pumps. As diesel engines provide more powerful torque and stable performance, they are preferred and widely used in all sorts of concrete pump products. In addition, it does not need additional power supply units so compared with electric motor-powered concrete pumps it is more suitable in areas where there is a problem of power-shortages.
The voltage of the electric motor can be customized according to the demands of particular construction projects. Luton uses well-known domestic and foreign brands for its concrete pump products.
2. The main oil pump
Together with the power host, the main oil pump forms the heart of the concrete pump system and is the key to the whole power system. The main oil pump is usually a plunger pump.
3. Hydraulic pump of mixing system
The hydraulic pump of the mixing system is used to pump high-pressure oil that drives the mixing shaft of the hopper mixer.
4. Oil cooling pump
Timely oil cooling is very crucial to optimize the performance of the equipment. High oil temperatures will directly affect the stability, performance, service life, and efficiency of the hydraulic components. Hot oil from the hydraulic tank is conveyed to the radiator line where it gets air cooled by a fan. Sometimes a water unit is also equipped in the cooling system to assist in cooling. The oil cooling function guarantees that the oil temperature remains below 70℃.
5. Hydraulic motor or cylinder
This is the final actuator of the whole system, which drives the mechanism to operate, i.e. stretch, swing, rotate, etc.
Pumping mechanism
The main components of the pumping mechanism are the main oil cylinder, water tank, S tube valve, swinging oil cylinder, and hopper.
1. The main oil cylinder
The high-pressure oil pushes the piston rod of the main oil cylinder. This leads the other end of the piston in the concrete cylinder to constantly inhale and extrude concrete, thus continuously pumping it out. The concrete cylinder is much larger than the main oil cylinder.
2. The water tank
The purpose of the water tank is to cool and clean the piston rod. Oil can also be added into the water appropriately as required.
3. S tube valve
The S-tube valve is designed to swing back and forth along a fixed axis. One end of the S-tube valve faces and switches between two concrete cylinders, and the other end connects to the outlet from which concrete is delivered out of the machine.
4.The swing cylinder
The swing cylinder is connected to the swinging arm and finally drives the fixed shaft on the S-tube valve. The arm swings back and forth to grasp the left-right switch of the S-tube valve.
5. Hopper
The hopper is equipped with a screen mesh and a vibrator and is used to store concrete. The screen mesh filters out the larger particles such as stones to prevent blockage in the pipeline, and the vibrator allows for smooth feeding of the concrete. A separate hydraulic motor drives the mixing blades inside the hopper to make the concrete more uniform in consistency and to prevent the segregation of concrete.
Electric control system
The brain of the entire pump body is the electrical control cabinet installed on the cement pump truck. All control instructions for the operation of the pump are issued from here.
To assist in the remote operation of the concrete pump, the electric control system is also equipped with a remote controller that can be used remotely at site. A convenient recovery function enables system restoration with just one click.
The electrical control system of the Luton concrete pump adopts the Omron PLC and Schneider electrical components. These products are international brands that assure high working performance for the pump.
Concrete conveying pipeline
The star accessory of the concrete pump that makes this concrete pump so desirable is its conveying pipeline system. It is the most important accessory of the entire concrete pump system. The concrete conveying pipeline is mainly divided into three types:
- Straight steel pipe
- Elbow steel pipe
- High-pressure hose
Steel pipes are available in ordinary and seamless types and are easy to connect and assemble. The ordinary steel pipes are cost-efficient, while the thickened seamless steel pipe is expensive. Different configurations are available for customers according to their particular requirements, in accordance with international production standards.
