What Exactly Is A Self Propelled Concrete Mixer?
A self propelled concrete mixer is a concrete mixer with a chassis and a driving cab that can mix concrete and transport it to construction sites like a truck.
A self propelled concrete mixer is also known as a self-loading concrete mixer, a self-loading concrete mixing machine, a self-loading concrete mixer truck, and so on.
Nowadays, the construction machinery manufacturing industry is seeing an increase in the number of concrete-producing machines. Self propelled concrete mixers are a new face that has emerged in recent years. When used in concrete production, this type of concrete mixer receives widespread customer approval.

What are the Benefits of Self Propelled Concrete Mixers?
Why are self-propelled concrete mixers so popular among investors? Obviously, the outstanding benefits catch the attention of customers.
1. Self-Propelled Function – Versatile, Stable and Effective
- The self-propelled function is the highlight of the self-propelled concrete mixer.
- The self-propelled concrete mixer powered by a powerful diesel engine can travel over any terrain with ease.
- Instead of using a manual or auxiliary truck, this self-propelled and transporting method is more efficient and versatile than standard concrete mixing equipment.
2. Multiple Functions in One – Efficient and cost-effective
- A self propelled concrete mixer combines multiple functions into a single truck, such as self-propulsion, self-loading, self-measuring, self-mixing, self-unloading, and so on.
- Because of its multi-functional design, a self-propelled concrete mixer can complete the entire concrete production process with only 2-3 workers and no other auxiliary equipment.
Self-propelled concrete mixers are more efficient and cost-effective than traditional concrete mixing equipment.
3. Compact structure and powerful driving system – suitable for all-terrain
- Self-propelled concrete mixers are designed to be compact and suitable for small and medium-sized construction projects. This results in a smaller structure and makes it more suitable for projects with limited operating areas, such as rough mountain roads and narrow tunnels.
- The use of a diesel driving system allows the versatile equipment to operate not only on smooth urban roads but also on rough mountain roads and narrow terrain.
- The original all-terrain concrete mixer is the self-propelled concrete mixer.
4. Load cell and time relay – precise weighing
- Operators can obtain real-time measuring data from the display screen after installing the accurate load cell materials weighing system and the precise time relay water metering system.
- The precise measuring equipment ensures that concrete products are of high quality and meet the needs of customers’ projects.
5. All operations in the driving cab are simple and convenient to carry out.
- The driving cab is where all operations are put together. The entire process can be completed by simply operating the lever and control buttons in the driving cab. It’s simple and convenient.
- And the working method is a cost-effective way of saving labor and time.

A Self Propelled Concrete Mixer’s Propelling Function
As we all know, the propelling function is the highlight of a self-propelled concrete mixer. How does the propelling function work? It’s a difficult procedure. Let me clarify briefly.
Step 1: The diesel engine starts the propelling power.
- The diesel engine is the heart of the self propelled concrete mixer.
- Compared to other power sources, diesel engines are far superior due to their outstanding high driving power and stable operating performance.
Step 2: The diesel power is disconnected from the hydraulic pump system.
- The power takeoff transfers diesel energy to the hydraulic pump, converting mechanical energy into hydraulic energy.
Step 3: The hydraulic gear pump converts energy into the hydraulic motor.
- In this step, power is transferred from the hydraulic pump to various hydraulic gear pumps, where hydraulic energy is transferred into hydraulic motors for various executing function units.
- The hydraulic motor converts hydraulic energy into mechanical energy in step four.
In step 4, the hydraulic motor converts hydraulic energy into mechanical energy, preparing it for the final driving power support.
Step 5: A reducer is used to adjust the speed and torque suitable for driving shafts.
- Finally, the reducer will reduce speed and increase torque for the driving shafts, causing the entire vehicle to move.
This is the fundamental operating principle of the propelling function. The traditional driving method is four-wheel-driving with two forward and two backward wheels.
In the LUTON self propelled concrete mixer family, there are still various driving forms, such as 2 wheels steering, 4 wheels steering, 4 forward and 2 backward wheels driving, 4 forward and 4 backward wheels driving, and so on.
All of these methods are tailored to your specific on-site application.

Maintaining A Self Propelled Concrete Mixer?
Every customer desires a high-quality, long-lasting self-propelled concrete mixer. Few people are aware, however, that it is closely related to daily maintenance and repair. Daily maintenance will help you extend the life of your self-propelled concrete mixer. Let’s take a closer look.
Daily Maintenance
- Before loading materials into the self-propelled concrete mixer, clean the loading port.
- When loading the material, fill the cleaning water tank.
- After loading, clean the loading port.
- Emptying the sewage into the mixing drum prior to the next loading.
- After discharging concrete, wash the discharge chute. Then, pour clean water into the mixing drum and slowly stir forward to clean the inside of the mixing drum.
- After working every day, thoroughly clean the mixing drum, including the inner wall, loading port, outlet, and mixing drum surface.

Maintenance of the System
1. One of the most important systems of a self propelled concrete mixer is the hydraulic system. Before starting the vehicle, check the oil level, the radiator, and the reducer to ensure proper operation and stability. To avoid oil pollution, keep the oil level in the window range and clean. All of this is done to keep the hydraulic system from malfunctioning and causing damage.
2. Some checking is required in the stirring drum after 50 hours of operation for the first time.
- Check if the tank’s and other parts’ bolts are loose.
- Every day, check the lubrication of the supporting wheel and raceway before driving.
Once a month, open the supporting wheel cover and clean the oil inside before adding lubricating grease.
3. System of water supply
- Fill the water tank with water.
- When the vehicle is running, each valve in the waterway system should be closed.
- Examine the valve body to see if it is blocked or if there is any abnormal work.
- Check the system’s tightness regularly.
- Following disassembly and repair, the key parts should be coated with thread sealant.
